There's extreme skiing, then there's extreme telemark skiing!
The West Elk Project is reporting that the Extreme Freeskiing Telemark Championships may return to Crested Butte after a low snowfall hiatus last year. The dates currently being locked down are March 22nd and 23rd.
With two IFSA junior events, one Junior Freeride Tour event, and two Freeride World Qualifier events, it is already going to be a busy freeride scene at Crested Butte this season. However, the CB Tele Extremes have always been a well-supported event both locally and regionally as Crested Butte has long-served has a national hub for telemark skiing according to The West Elk Project.
Mark Robbins, CBMST Telemark coach, says: “A local and regional effort needs to happen if we want to keep the comp going in Crested Butte. This is one of the last telemark comps left and something Crested Butte can really call it’s own. Let’s make it happen!”
