Mountain Biking

After our remodel, our decks are much larger, and a nice place to keep your bikes overnight. We also have bike racks in our parking lots and bike-washing stations conveniently located adjacent to our buildings to clean your bikes at the end of the day.

Go biking from the San Moritz – a great staging area for any mountain biking. There are also great races to participate in or watch. Peak Sports offers a 20% discount to San Moritz guests.  They are located at the base of the Red Lady Lift, with a wide range of bikes including Cross Country models such as the Trek Fuel EX 5, and downhill bikes such as the Scott Voltage FR 20.  Visit www.rentbikes.org/sanmoritz to reserve your rentals, or call 970-349-6121.

Also, try The Alpineer in Crested Butte for Townies and mountain bikes with very reasonable rentals by the hour with a minimum of three hours.

On-mountain: Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Zipline Tour

Last summer, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) added a Zipline Tour to its on-mountain amenities. The guided tour includes five ziplines, and a series of suspension bridges. The Crested Butte Zipline Tour is available during the summer, fall and winter seasons. So far, the Crested Butte Zipline Tour has been a resounding hit with resort guests, local residents and employees. Scream your loudest, hoot like a monkey and do your best “superman dive” as you zip through the trees on this 2 hour expedition.

Evolution Bike Park

The Evolution Bike Park has been built over the last few years and continues to grow with new trails and new features every year. Now boasting over 25 miles and 16 trails from beginner to expert levels, the bike park is perfect for families wanting to ride together, an intermediate wanting to improve their skills in a lesson or the expert downhill mountain biker looking for fast speeds and jumps. This summer there are plans to build a Skills Zone in the base area for beginners to learn balance and bike control, as well as an intermediate gravity trail for riders progressing their downhill abilities.

Sponsored by Specialized, guests can demo a range of Specialized bikes at the Crested Butte Rental and Demo Center and also sign up for bike lessons from the professional bike park staff. The Evolution Bike Park and the overall bike program is unlike many others. It is designed to progress any level of rider; inspiring people to get out on their bikes, enjoy the trails and learn a life-long sport.

Take a bike lesson – Whether you are an experienced mountain biker or a beginner rider, you have the option to take a guide with you to help explore the mountain, learn the trails that are best for your ability, pick up some new tips from an expert, and get the most out of your Evolution Bike Park experience. Bike rental and lesson packages are available to have the best mountain bike experience in the Evolution Bike Park. Lessons are available for both 2 hour and 4 hour segments.

Adventure Park

The Adventure Park at Crested Butte Mountain Resort is a great way to spend a day or afternoon with the entire family. The activities in the Adventure Park include mini golf, a bungee trampoline, climbing wall, and lift-accessed disc golf.

Flying Gopher Miniature Golf Course – New last season, the Flying Gopher Miniature Golf Course consists of 18 holes of classic mini-golf fun. Each hole has been designed to represent a different area throughout the Gunnison Valley to make it fun and perhaps learn a thing or two about the Crested Butte area. Whether you are challenging your brother or sister to a serious match or you’re out for a friendly family game, the Flying Gopher is an Adventure Park favorite!

Bungee Trampoline – The Bungee Tramp is another must-do, especially for the kids. Participants are harnessed into the bungee system where they can jump 30 feet into the sky, flipping around and around. Chances are the kids will come off the trampoline grinning from ear to ear and wanting another turn, once they catch their breath!

Climbing Wall – The six route climbing tower gives each climber plenty of challenge to make their way up 28 feet to the pinnacle. Once the participant reaches the top, the specially designed auto-belay system will gently lower them back down to the ground. It’s a safe yet exhilarating way to learn to rock climb.

Disc Golf – Ride the Red Lady Express lift and make your way down, zig-zagging through the trees, throwing your disc in an attempt to land it in the basket. There are 18 “holes” and discs are available for rent at the Crested Butte Rental & Demo Center. Disc Golf is an activity that everyone in the family can enjoy together.

This summer, the resort, along with the Trailhead Children’s Museum, is adding a tree house playground, which will be free for guests to use and is located in the base area near the Adventure Park. The custom playhouse is designed and built by Daniels Wood Land, Inc. It is made from a real, old fallen tree that is hollowed out by a chainsaw. The tree house is a unique creation that’s been thoughtfully designed by the Trailhead to reflect Crested Butte’s mountain heritage.

The Trailhead Children’s Museum

Just steps from the main base area quad is Crested Butte’s very own children’s museum. Appropriately named The Trailhead, this non-profit entity is chalk full of handson educational exhibits and play opportunities, drop-off programs in the arts and sciences, and family-friendly event opportunities. Discover the Dig Pit, Dark Room, Magic Magnets, Wedgits, Pirate Ship, Astro Corner, Block Party, Trail Lab and more! Just recently, the Trailhead debuted their newest exhibit, Garden to Grocery, A Healthy Living Exhibit. Complete with a Gunnison Valley Ranch, Mountain Town Market, and Pizza Café, kids can use dramatic play to explore and learn about healthy eating habits, where their food comes from and how it is made.

In addition to spending quality time together playing as a family (or rotating babysitting duty between various parties in your ski or bike group), the Trailhead offers daily Art and Science Enrichment Classes and Camps for kids ages 0-12 yrs. The littlest Einsteins and Picassos can enjoy hands-on arts and science alongside their parents and caregivers in Preschool Picasso’s – where the exploratory introduction to art and science happens on their floor, not yours. Children ages 3-12, have a handful of parent-free options, including classes in drawing, painting, ceramics, engineering, chemistry … and the list goes on, at a reasonable price point too! Daily drop-ins vary in price from $12 – $40 depending on the class. Visit the www.trailheadkids.org website or call 970-349-7160 for more information about the Trailhead, details on class times and offerings.

Scenic Chairlift Ride

Ride the Silver Queen Express to the top of Crested Butte Mountain. From there guests can hike to the Peak, have a picnic or simply ride the lift back down. The peak stands at 12,162 feet above sea level and offers the best views of the entire valley. The hike from the top of the Silver Queen lift takes about 45 minutes to an hour and hikers may even witness some local wildlife along the way.

Camp CB offers quality childcare and memorable summertime experiences for kids of all ages. For the older kids, the Camp CB Summer Adventure program combines outdoor mountain activities, Adventure Park access and summer sports with various educational themes. For the younger ones, the Camp CB Nursery is the perfect place to take your little ones while you enjoy a day in the mountains. Camp CB accepts children from ages 2 months to 12 years
