10 Days Until Opening Day At Crested Butte; 5 inches on the powcam

After a winter storm moved into the Crested Butte area over the weekend, Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s PowCam is showing 5 inches this morning (and it’s cleared every day).

Crested Butte’s lifts open in 10 days on November 21st – time to get stoked about the season!

A wet Pacific storm delivered widespread snow across the entire state of Colorado, with many ski areas reporting more than a foot of snow, including 17 inches at Crested Butte, 16 inches at Telluride and six to 10 inches at the resorts along the I-70 corridor.

Crested Butte’s Snow Betty report this morning: “Hit the fluffy white slopes this morning because we’ve gotten 4 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours! In the last two days, we’ve received 19 inches of snow and this entire weather event in the last week has dropped 37 inches of snow on the mountain. Our “deependable” base is 44″ at the top, 33″ at midway and is waiting for you to practice some powder turns! Our open terrain includes 78 trails on 553 acres, including 75 groomed trails and the Groomer’s Choice for Today, Upper Keystone- one of my favorite runs, by the way! New terrain opening up for the day includes Double Top Glades, Peonia, Silvanite and Topsy. Forecasters are calling for a 60% chance of snow tomorrow, and with our recent snow event, we’re feeling confident the pow will continue to rise.”

A significant winter storm has arrived and will seriously impact the Elk Mountains over the next 3 – 4 days. Expect periods of Heavy snowfall this weekend lasting through Tuesday. The storm is on a West, southwest flow and temperatures will remain somewhat mild through the storm though winds will be significant. The heaviest snow sets in Sunday and Sunday night when the winds will also pick up. Be prepared for a blustery weekend with blowing snow, poor visibility, and the accumulation of 2-3 feet of snow in the high country by Tuesday. The long term remains unsettled so do not expect to see the sun any time too soon!

Snow 4-8 inches possible, winds west, southwest 15-25 mph gusting in the 30’s. High temperatures in CB and Gunnison will be in the high 20’s

Tonight

Crested Butte Mountain Resort has reached the milestone of 100 inches
of cumulative snow with the arrival of the second major winter storm in
a week.  In the past seven days, the resort has received over a half of
a foot of snow, and weather reports indicate the possibility of at
least ten more inches of snow falling over the course of the weekend.
The snow adds to a variety of exciting events on Saturday and Sunday,
including the grand opening of the DC Superpipe and the first USSA
sanctioned Rocky Mountain Division Junior race series of the season.

Another 2 inches of snow fell last night making the 48 hour total 4 inches and the 7 day total a whopping 43 inches! An unbelievable 206 inches of snow has already coated the mountain this year and even more snow is expected to fall throughout this Thursday, the 29th of January, while temperatures will reach the upper teens. Starting Friday, the Colorado sun will shine brightly, raising the temperatures to the mid 20’s.

Thanks to all the glorious snow that has come down this year, 100% of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain is open, as well as 93% of the amazing Extreme terrain. 15 chair lifts are running, leading you to 1191 skiable acres, 481 of which have been groomed to perfection.
