Fresh ways to hit the slopes, from tubing to snow bikes to improved gladed skiing!
In anticipation of the 2014-2015 ski season, Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CMBR) is improving guest entertainment on skis and off. Continued thinning on gladed runs will offer intermediate skiers more places to ski through the trees and upgrades to the tubing hill and snow bike rentals will make it possible to hit the slopes in more ways than one. The West Elk Project is reporting that the Extreme Freeskiing Telemark Championships may return to Crested Butte after a low snowfall hiatus last year. The dates currently being locked down are March 22nd and 23rd.
With two IFSA junior events, one Junior Freeride Tour event, and two Freeride World Qualifier events, it is already going to be a busy freeride scene at Crested Butte this season. However, the CB Tele Extremes have always been a well-supported event both locally and regionally as Crested Butte has long-served has a national hub for telemark skiing according to The West Elk Project. Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) has just opened the Coke Zero® Gravity BagJump as its latest amenity in the Adventure Park. The 50 feet by 50 feet by 11 feet deep bag is filled with air and acts as a safe and cushioned landing pad for jumpers, tubers, skiers and snowboarders.
National Geographic has listed Crested Butte as one of the “World’s 25 Best Ski Towns”. And they’ve hit the nail on the head: “You don’t come here to shop or be seen, you come here to ski and to revel in the surrounding Elk Mountains and one of the most eclectic, adventurous playgrounds in the Rockies.”
After a winter storm moved into the Crested Butte area over the weekend, Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s PowCam is showing 5 inches this morning (and it’s cleared every day).
Crested Butte’s lifts open in 10 days on November 21st – time to get stoked about the season!

Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR) and the Telluride Montrose Regional Air Organization (TMRAO) inked a letter of intent recently, committing CBMR’s support of the Allegiant Air direct flights to the Montrose Regional Airport from the San Francisco and Phoenix areas this winter. The twice-weekly direct flights (Wednesdays and Saturdays) will begin in December from Oakland International Airport (OAK) and Phoenix-Mesa airport (IWA). (more…)
Crested Butte Mountain Resort and Telluride Ski Resort have teamed up to offer the Telluride Crested Butte Ultimate 6 Pass, a 6-visit pass good for 3 days of skiing and riding at Crested Butte and 3 days of skiing and riding at Telluride. The TCB Ultimate 6 Pass sells for just $399 or $66.50 per day, about a 30% discount. Once the first 6 visits have been used, additional days may be added on at each ski resort at a 20% discount off the single-day window rate. The TCB Ultimate 6 Pass is available in limited quantities until December 15, 2012 exclusively through Liftopia.com.
New snowmaking pipes are being installed at Crested Butte Mountain Resort (CBMR), adding more acreage and more capacity to the East River area.
Enhanced snowmaking will allow the CBMR to open this area sooner, with better coverage in the early winter season. The resort has also leased a new Prinoth snow groomer, the Bison X,which will maintain one of the state’s best corduroy
Continued renovations at the Paradise Warming House – one of our regular on-mountain hang-outs – have been taking place throughout the summer for the second year in a row. The resort has put more than $200,000 into improving the on-mountain cafeteria; from completely upgrading the food line, to new furniture, an outdoor barbeque, a new bar, carpet and signage.
